Le espressioni più utilizzate dagli studenti universitari taiwanesi / Most common expressions used by taiwanese university students
Il modo in cui parliamo, e le parole che impariamo studiando una lingua straniera, sono sempre, sempre e inevitabilmente influenzati dalle attivita’ a cui prendiamo parte e dalle persone con cui passiamo la maggior parte del tempo. Per questo motivo, un cuoco che lavora a Taiwan conoscera’ probabilmente il nome cinese di una certa quantita’ di ingredienti, mentre io mi limito a indicare quello che voglio comprare dicendo “這個這個 zhege zhege (questo, questo)”, mentre lo stesso cuoco probabilmente conoscera’ solo alcune delle parole che sto per elencare mentre io, in quanto studentessa a Taiwan, le ho usate e strausate, come la maggior parte dei miei amici sia Taiwanesi che stranieri! The way we speak and the words that we learn by studying a foreign language, are always and inevitably influenced by the activities we are involved in and the people with whom we spend most of our time. For this reason, a chef who works in Taiwan will probably know the Chinese name of all the ingredients, while I simply say "這個 這個 Zhege Zhege (this, this)"!!! ...but the same chef will probably know just some of the words I am going to list below, in fact, as a student in Taiwan, I used these words daily as most of my friends both Taiwanese and foreigners!
SLANG
Iscriversi all'università, a prescindere dalla propria età, significa che ci si ritroverà circondati al novanta per cento da giovani tra i diciotto e venticinque anni, e anche se e’ vero che lo slang non viene parlato solo dagli studenti, mi pare difficile immaginare una mia giornata senza sentire almeno una delle parole sotto elencate:
Going to a university - no matter how old you are - means that you'll end up 'surrounded by 90% of young people between 18 and 25 years, and even if it' s true that the slang is not only spoken by the students, it seems hard to imagine my day without hearing at least one of the words listed below:
1) 屁啦 pronuncia: pi la! Oppure 廢話 pronuncia: feihua : ca**ate - Eng: bulls**t
Partiamo da due delle espressioni piu’ fini (ma anche no) del repertorio, l’utilissimo e popolarissimo “ca**ate”. Utilizzato in modo soprattutto scherzoso tra amici quando uno del gruppo la spara grossa, puo’ anche tornare utile in una litigata reale, perche’ va bene che siamo stranieri ma non significa che dobbiamo farci prendere per i fondelli, no? Assolutamente da evitare in presenza di professori. Let's start with the two most '"delicate" and useful expressions ... the popular "bulls**t". Used mostly as a joke
between friends when one of the group talk nonsense, it can also become useful in a real quarrel. We're foreigners but it does not mean that everybody can make fun of us, right? Must be surely avoided in the presence of professors.
2) 超級 +aggettivo pronuncia: chaoji... : troppo + aggettivo, Eng: too much
Quando 非常feichang e 太tai non suonano abbastanza informali, chaoji is the way. Da 超級棒！chaoji bang! (troppo forte) a 超級爛 chaoji lan （terribile）le sitauzioni in cui poterlo usare sono infinite e in genere otterranno come risultato la seguente esclamazione da parte del vostro amico Taiwanese “你好台灣人！ni hao taiwan ren! （sei davvero Taiwanese!）. Basta non scriverlo in un compito, la reazione del prof potrebbe essere diversa. When 非常 Feichang and 太 tai do not sound quite informal, Chaoji is the way.
From 超級 棒! Chaoji bang! (Too strong) to 超級 爛 Chaoji lan (terrible) the cases where it can be used are endless and usually - if you use this in a conversation - your Taiwanese friend will say : "你好 台灣 人! Ni hao ren taiwan! (You really are Taiwanese!). Just do not write it in a task, the reaction of the prof may vary.
3)煩 pronuncia: fan : ????? Eng:???
Non so se esista un’accurata traduzione diretta per questo carattere da solo, ma i suoi usi lo rendono uno dei piu’ utilizzati nella vita di tutti i giorni, da 麻煩 mafan ,che tradurrei con l’inglese troublesome, passando per 好煩！haofan, esclamazione piu’ o meno analoga al nostro “che palle”, fino a 你很煩 ni hen fan, sempre sulla linea del “sei un rompipalle, c’e’ di che arricchire le conversazioni con i compagni di classe, soprattutto la mattina presto appena entrati in classe, il che mi porta alla seconda parte del vocabolario dello studente, il lessico piu’ “tecnico” se vogliamo.
I do not know whether there is an accurate translation for this character alone, but it is one of the most 'used in the everyday life: from 麻煩 mafan, which would be translated in English by "troublesome", till 好煩! haofan , "That sucks!", up to 你 很煩 ni hen fans, "you are a pain in the ass". You can enrich conversations with classmates, especially in the early morning !
... Which brings me to the second part of the student's vocabulary a little more '"technical" if you will.
2） TERMINI SPECIFICI (o quasi) TECHNICAL SENTENCES ( more or less )
早八 zaoba letteralmente “presto otto” sta ad indicare un corso mattutino che comincia alle otto, odiato sia dagli studenti che normalmente eviterebbero si alzarsi prima delle nove, che dai professori per l’alto tasso di assenteisti
早八 zaoba Literally "early eight" refers to a morning class that begins at eight, hated by all the students - who normally would avoid getting up before nine- and by professors due to the high number of absentees.
比修課 bixiuke letteralmente “bisogna classe” e’ un corso del tuo dipartimento che devi scegliere per forza e magari se sei particolarmente fortunato e’ pure uno "zaoba" ! 比 修課 bixiuke literally "you have to class" it's a class in your department that you have to choose and maybe - if you are particularly lucky- it will also be a "zaoba"!
選修課 xuanxiuke “scegliere classe”, e' un corso del tuo dipartimento che puoi scegliere oppure no, ma e' quello che poi ti fa venire i dubbi del tipo “magari facevo meglio a scegliere quell’altro con il prof che non fa mai l’appello” ma ormai e’ troppo tardi. 選修課 xuanxiuke literally "choose" class, is the course in your department that you can choose or not - but it will surely make you wonder if "maybe I'd have better choose the other one, where the teacher never do roll calls" ... but now it's too late!
通識課 tongshike I corsi chiamati cosi’ servirebbero in teoria ad espandere le conoscenze di ogni studente aldila’ di cio’ che viene studiato nel proprio dipartimento, sono o i corsi piu’ stravaganti e divertenti che potreste mai immaginare (nella mia universita’ ce n’e’ uno sugli extraterrestri) oppure, piu’ spesso, una scheggia nel fianco immensa, perche’ vi assicuro che se non ero in grado di capire la matematica in italiano al liceo, le probabiita’ che io la capisca in cinese sono molto molto basse. O almeno credo, la statistica alla fine e’ matematica... 通 識 課 tongshike The so called classes aim to expand the knowledge of each student beside what they are studying in their department, they are either the most extravagant and fun courses that you could ever imagine (in my university there is one about extraterrestrial ) or, more often, a thorn stabbed in my flank, because - I guarantee you - that, if I was not able to understand mathematics in Italian at the high school, the chance that I understand math in Chinese are very very low. Or at least I think, the statistics at the end are mathematical ...
迎新活動 yinxin huodong ovvero ‘attivita’ di benvenuto per le matricole’, una serie di giri della scuola, discorsi e altre strane cose alle quali per qualche ragione tutte le matricole devono prendere parte una settimana prima che cominci la scuola. 迎新 活動 Yinxin huodong or ' welcome 'activity' for freshmen. It is a kind of tour of the school, including speeches and other strange things that - for some unknown reason - all freshmen must attend during the week before they start school.
學分 xuefen Crediti! Appreciations!
報告 baogao Puo’ riferirsi sia ad una presentazione a voce in classe che ad un testo scritto, in ogni caso tra il primo giorno di scuola e quello della laurea ne incontrerete abbastanza da sapere perfettamente cosa significhi molto presto. 報告 baogao Can refer to either an oral presentation in class or a written exam, in any case, between the first day of school and the graduation, you will be confronted to enough baogao to know exactly what it means very soon!
授權碼 shouquanma, organizzare i propri corsi e’ una delle cose migliori ma anche peggiori dell’universita’. Per qualche ragione infatti alcuni college sembrano essere assolutamente determinati a rendere la vita difficile agli studenti che vogliono seguire piu’ di un corso interessante alla volta, e quindi utilizzano il sito per scegliere i corsi come una specie di labirinto del minotauro dal quale e’ gia’ tanto uscire vivi, figuriamoci con i corsi in ordine. Per fortuna esiste anche in questo caso un filo di Arianna, ovvero il “numero di diritto” che permette se inserito nel sito di scegliere un corso gia’ pieno. For some reason, in fact, some universities seem absolutely determined to make life difficult for students who want to follow more than an interesting course at a time. 加分 jiafen...musica per le orecchie di uno studente, jiafen significa punti in piu’, che di solito vengono aggiunti ad un test importante se lo studente in questione ha partecipato in classe o portato a termine qualsiasi cosa il professore si sia inventato per aggiungere punti. 加 分 jiafen ... music to the ears of a student, jiafen means more points', which are usually added to a major test if the student has participated in class and completed everything that the professor has invented to obtain more points.
期中考、期末考 qizhongkao / qimokao “midterm and final exam”, anche conosciuti come settimane di consumo smodato di caffeina, sono i due periodi in cui si concentrano la maggior parte degli esami di tutti i corsi. Buona fortuna. 期中考, 期末考 qizhongkao / qimokao "midterm and final exam", also known as weeks of excessive caffeine consumption. These are the two periods of the year most concentrated in exams. 外籍生 waijisheng sei tu! Lo studente internazionale, da non confondere con qiaosheng ovvero gli ABC, CBC，Malaysian Chinese etc. E’ importante sapere di essere un waijisheng perche’ capitera’ di doverlo scrivere e riscrivere su modulo dopo modulo...ma tanto siamo qui proprio per imparare, no? 外籍 生 waijisheng it's you! International students, not to be confused with Qiaosheng, the ABC, CBC, Malaysian Chinese etc. It 'important to know to be a waijisheng because it will happen to write and rewrite in different forms ... but we are here to learn, right?
